Objects carefully created for a particular utilitarian purpose, then removed from their environment are curious and interesting to me. Existing for untold years these strange, ugly and once functional objects reflect not only our evolution as a society, but also our incessant capacity for destruction and waste.

Concrete footings are poured to support walls and buildings, and in this case a pole, trail marker and restraining chain for a path in the Bartram Forest that runs through Milledgeville, Georgia. I’ll never know why it was removed and left on the ground - it still has structural integrity, so I am left to invent a reason and its history.

By mimicking structural supports systems I am investigating the materials and aesthetic nature of the abandoned object and continuing its physical existence through an abstract replication of the original.

The items I duplicate are purposefully placed adjacent to or in our normal walking path to exist in harmony with their new surroundings as an object worthy of our attention and scrutiny.
